May 31, 2006: Sorry it's been such a long time since my last post, but I've gone back to work for 4 days a week. It's really hard to find time to update this site plus my Blog (
www.shaynabethmarie.blogspot.com). Shayna is saying every word that we ask her to say. It's so cool. She also says thank you and she even says her own name! It's so cute! Well, it's getting pretty late, so I'll end it with that. Don't forget to bookmark my Blog site. I've been pretty good about updating it frequently.

April 17, 2006:
Mark and I spent Easter Sunday having fun with Shayna. I put some Rice Chex cereal into little plastic eggs and placed them throughout our lawn. Shayna had a blast "finding" her Easter eggs and putting them into her "Easter Bucket." I just didn't have time to go out and find a basket, so we had the next best thing! What do I know...I'm Jewish!
Shayna was so cute looking for her Easter eggs! There are pictures of her on her hunt on the website! She's so cute with her bonnet!
Later in the day, my parents came over to watch Shayna for the afternoon. Mark and I needed some
alone time so we drove over to the Edwards 26 Movie Theaters... Mind you, there are
26 theaters and all we could manage to agree on was the wonderfully huge hit, "Bench Warmers." Nice... we were the oldest people in the movie theater! Oh well it was kinda funny, but I won't even recommend it for a rental! It was a fun day and Shayna didn't even notice we were gone!

April 11, 2006: Today we had our first appointment with Dr. Norris, Shayna's Urologist. It was pretty much just a question and answer session. Just as Shayna's pediatrician had told us, the doctor prescibed her a low dosage of antibiotics. We will visit the Urologist every 3 months for one year and he will prescribe a different antibiotic at each appointment. Like I stated earlier, Shayna will be reevaluted in a year with the VCUG procedure. With all of the bad press about the over-prescribing of antibiotics, we are very worried about Shayna. In this case though, it is very important to keep any infections away from the Kidneys, because as we learned today, Kidney cells do not repair themselves. They are like brain cells and once they're gone, they're gone. Thought I'd throw in some anatomical trivia.
Overall, Shayna is just a normal toddler. Her vocabulary is growing by leaps and bounds every day and she is already kicking a soccer ball around the house like Pele! Last night we went for a walk after dinner and she pushed her baby in her baby stroller almost a 1/2 mile! She loves being outdoors, but who could blame her...it's sunny SoCal!

April 7, 2006: Shayna and I spent most of the day at the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana, today. The power company was replacing our exterior power lines, so the power was turned off most of the day - just another good excuse to get out and explore! We had lots of fun learning about Bernoulli's Law and Einstein's Theory of Relativity! To be honest, I think Shayna really just had fun sliding down the slide all day!
Check out some picts from today on this website.

April 4, 2006: Sorry it's been such a long time since my last post! I was reading my friend's, Jenna, Blog and got inspired - since she has triplets and has the umph to write just about every day! Thanks, Jenna! By the way... here's the web address for Jenna's Blog (check it out!):
http://amazingtrips.blogspot.com/
Well, since it has been so long, there's lots to tell. Shayna is growing so fast! Every day there's a new word, or body part, or dance routine that she just picks up and repeats! It is so cute when we hear the "Hokey-Pokey" at MyGym. We just signed up at MyGym and Shayna LOVES all of the kids and activities. It was a perfect time to sign up because of all the rain we're having.
A bit of bad news to report... Shayna was suffering from a pretty bad Urinary Tract Infection a couple of weeks ago, which 10 days worth of antibiotics cleared up. Well, to make a long story even longer, Shayna had an ultrasound of her kidneys, as well as a procedure called a VCUG (which you can look up online if you are so inclined, because it's not worth repeating). The ultrasound revealed a slightly enlarged left kidney and the VCUG revealed a Grade II (which on a scale of I through V - V being the worst case) urinary reflux. Basically, her valve from her bladder is allowing urine to flow back up into her kidney, resulting in UTIs. We see the Urologist on Tuesday the 11th, so we'll let you know what he suggests after her appointment. Her primary care doctor said that Shayna will most likely be on a low grade antibiotics for a year then (in a year) have the same procedures again - ultrasound and VCUG. I read that 80% of children "grow out" of this condition.... I like those odds!

February 24, 2006: Shayna had her 15 month appt (she weighs 19 pounds, 8 ounces and is 31 1/4 inches long) and got 2 shots. She got her MMR and HIB. What a trooper. She now knows what a "boo-boo" is and points to it whenever she needs a little more attention. The doctor's appt. went very well and Shayna's a healthy little girl!
Nothing really new to report since our last post. Shayna just amazes us every day with her witty personality. She can now flutter her eyelids and point to just about every body part you can think of, including eyebrows and eyelashes.

January 27, 2006: It's been a while since my last post. Shayna is doing more things every day! She's starting to put words together : Hi dada, hi mama, bye dada, bye mama, etc. It's really neat! Her favorite word is "baby" but "uh-oh" is a close second. She's also has a wonderful sense of humor. Shayna shows a lot of love and affection, especially to her little babies. She is such a joy and we look forward to spending every day with her!
Mark and I just returned from Port Townsend, Washington for a little R&R. It was the longest that either of us have been away from Shayna. It was really hard the first couple of days, but it was really nice for mom and dad to be together. It was also very nice to eat a warm dinner at a restaurant (we're usually feeding Shayna) with some wine and good friends. We met our friends Paul and Barbara Hagar (they live up in PT) for a wonderful dinner. It was great to see them again! We were also at their house for the Seahawks game! It was a fun weekend and we miss them very much.
GO SEAHAWKS!!!

January 6, 2006: ONCE AGAIN, we're back home. Another holiday season to look back on with happy memories. Returned home from the East Coast (New Jersey) where we visited with our friends, the Marenciks. Stephen and Meghan invited the Bartee trio out to the Right Coast for some New Year party'n and Stephen's birthday (Jan.3rd)! It was great visiting those guys! They just had a little girl, Sarah Katherine, on November 11th. It seemed so long ago that Shayna was that little... we also got to spend time with Colin (Steve & Megs 2 year old son). It was such a pleasure to watch he and Shayna play together. What a little gentleman he is! I'm a little biased because he calls me, "Girlfriend Lorie." What a cutie-pie! Hopefully, the Marenciks can join us out here in Cali later this year. We promise that there will be NO snow!
While we were in NJ, Shayna got to experience snow for the first time. I think that she loved it... for about 10 minutes and then back into the house to warm up (with mommy!). I got to experience big fat snow flakes....soooo cool! By the way, did I mention that it was 80 degrees in Long Beach today!

December 27, 2005: We're back (but not for too long) from Grandma and Grandad Bartee's wonderful holiday weekend. We had a great time with everyone, including, Great Grandma Jenny, Uncle Matt, Aunt Leti, Cousins Dan, Kristi, Kaitlyn, Cooper, & Melissa.... not to mention Mickey and Casey (the kitty cats). Shayna had such a fun time this year because she now has the motor skills to rip open wrapped presents. She received such wonderful gifts from everyone.
A special thank you to Grandma Lynn and Grandad Art for making this Christmas so special!

December 9, 2005: After waiting in line for 30 minutes preparing Shayna for ol' Saint Nick, she totally lost it! Tears the size of volkswagons came pouring out of her little eyes when we sat her on his lap. Hopefully next year we will have a smile on her face with tears of joy!

December 3, 2005: We're back from Baja, where we celebrated Thanksgiving for a week! It was a great time and we can't wait to go back next year! Shayna loved hanging out at the beach. She loved the ocean, sand, and shells. We went on a couple of hikes in the dunes but mostly played in the sand and water. Shayna was such a trooper! She sat in her carseat for such a long time (almost 14 hours, with a couple of stops) and really never complained. We're glad to be back, though, and we can't wait to jump in the car again and head up north to Grandma and Grandad Bartee for Christmas!

November 8, 2005: Well, we're back from Henderson, Nevada, where we celebrated yet another birthday this month! Happy Birthday, Annie! We love you very much!
Shayna is a walking toddler now! She walks, without any assistance, all over the house! She is getting better at it every second! It is sooooo cute! She can also stand up from a sitting position without holding on to anything. Shayna still likes to scoot, though, because she can get to where she wants to go just a little bit faster that way.

November 4, 2005: Sorry.... it's been a while since my last post! Shayna is becoming such a big girl! She turned ONE on the first and took her first steps on Halloween (5 to be exact)! She is now walking, on her own, for
+ 10 feet! She loves all of her new toys and outfits that she rec'd for her birthday. Thank you everyone, for coming! We're sorry we missed the Lawrence Trio and Daniel, who were all sick. Get better soon!!!
This weekend we're off to Nevada to celebrate cousin Annie's birthday. We are very excited to see everyone again this weekend!
Check out some new photos of Halloween and the Birthday Party!

September 24, 2005: It's been a while since my last post and a lot has changed! Shayna can now point to her nose, eye, tummy, ear, tongue, and piggies (toes). It is the cutest thing! She can even point to mommy and daddy's eye, nose, mouth, ear, and piggies. She is so talented. Right now we're working on blowing kissies. Oh yeah, she can also do "TOUCHDOWN." I thinks it's because we watch USC play and that's all we yell.
Shayna is getting quite the vocabulary, too. She can now say, "hi, bye, baby, bear, bubbles, dada, mama (only when she's crying in her crib - otherwise it's baba), Elmo, and Big Bird." She is also pulling herself up on everything and cruising around. She's going to walk very soon!
Also, a big thank you to Grandad Art for flying down here to watch Shayna for a few days!

August 23, 2005: Well, we're back from the Great Northwest! We visited with the Hagars (Paul & Barbara) in Port Townsend our first day in Washington. Although our time was short, it was a great visit. Their new house is gorgeous and should be featured in the next issue of Sunset Magazine! The next morning was an early start, as we had to meet Mark's parents, Art and Lynn, at the Anacortes (to Orcas Island) ferry by 10:45 am. That meant that we had to catch the ferry out of PT to Whidbey Island at 8:00 am....yikes! You can check out the cool "Ferry Cam" at:
http://www.ferrycam.net/anacortes.shtml
We found eachother and had a fun time talking with people from Santa Rosa, CA (it's a small world!). We finally made it to Orcas Island and the house we rented:

It was a wonderful week with Grandad Art and Grandma Lynn. We visited Mount Constitution, Moran State Park, Rosario Resort, and lots of Pottery Shops. Check out some pictures from our trip on this website!

August 13, 2005: Shayna's second tooth has broken through on the bottom! It's hard to get pictures of them but we'll keep trying! Shayna had her 9-month doctor's appt. on Friday. She nows weighs 16 lbs 6 oz and she's 28 inches long - so that means now she's in the 75th percentile for height and 10th percentile for weight. She is our little string bean! Shayna also rec'd her 4th round of shots! She got 2 sets - her Polio and last Hepatitis B.
Shayna can now pull herself up from a sitting position, even though she's still not crawling yet. She can also say "baby" and "Hi Baby." She gives "high-fives" and can throw her ball to us like Nolan Ryan!
July 19, 2005: *BREAKING NEWS* Shayna's first tooth has broken through on the bottom! Pictures to follow in a few days! Also, a very happy birthday to Grandad Art!
July 16, 2005: Shayna is getting bigger every day! She can now wave, "Hi" and "Bye" while saying "Hi" and "Bye." She can also clap her hands and say, "Yayyyy." I think I'm really happy that she can now open books and turn the pages. We are having a blast and we cherish every day!
July 3, 2005: Jackie and Erez had their baby on July 1st almost a month early - Alexander Aviv Heymann weighed in at 6 pounds, 10 ounces and he was 19 inches long. Mommy and baby are doing great! We went to visit them today. Shayna waved hi to the new baby and was very excited to finally meet Alex! We just wanted to congratulate Jackie and Erez (welcome to the Club)!
