09/09/2008

Kaleb is just over a year old.  He has 10 teeth and is working on two more.  His favorites include: looking out the windows, playing with his trucks, eating and getting into whatever he can.  Kaleb will eat almost anything, but he will not eat broccoli.  He manages to get everywhere by crawling and hasn't start to walk yet.  He surprised Matt when he went up the stair one night all by himself.  He really likes to take stuff out of the kitchen cupboards and thinks it's fun to put stuff down the floor vents.  Even though he is a handful he is so much to fun to chase around.

06/30/2008

Kaleb is now 10 months old.  At his last doctor appointment, which was almost a month ago, he weighed 24 pounds.  June was a month of first for Kaleb.  He had his first haircut, he started to crawl, started eating table food, and had his first overnight trip away from home.

04/28/2008

Kaleb is growing like a weed and now weighs about 20 pounds.  This month he's gotten two teeth, his bottom right and top left, and is working on another.  He's mastered rolling over from back to stomach and stomach to back.  He's currently working on crawling and just this past weekend he got up on all fours and got his stomach off the ground.  He still doesn't like green vegetables and only eats orange ones.  We've been working on trying new foods including mixed fruits and veggies and Cheerios, which he really seems to like.  He also really enjoys the dogs at Grandpa and Grandma's house.

03/10/2008

Kaleb had his six-month doctor appointment last week and the doctor said he's doing good.  He weighs about 18 pounds and is 26 inches long.  He's now eating more solids and even tried some pieces of cereal this past weekend.  He likes orange vegetables (sweet potatoes, squash, carrots) and does not like peas.  In the past couple weeks he also tried fruit.  Applesauce is his favorite.  Kaleb still isn't crawling however he's sitting all by himself.  It's nice to be able to just set him on the floor with some toys to play with, but his exersaucer is his favorite toy.  He can spin around and make noise and most of all there's lots of things to chew on.  Lately anything Kaleb can get his hands on goes in his mouth.  We can't wait for the weather to warm up and get Kaleb outside.

02/13/2008

Kaleb is growing like a weed, now weighing 18.5 pounds.  He enjoys talking and laughing and likes to make a blowing noise with his lips.  He continues to roll from his back to his stomach but still can't figure out what to do once on his stomach.  His favorite thing to do is put stuff in his mouth.  Everything ends up in there.  He also enjoys his bath and likes to kick his legs and splash water all over.  His favorite bath toy is a floating turtle that squirts water out of it's mouth.  He also really enjoys eating and we've learned not to interfere with his eating.  He gets really excited when he sees his bottle or his cereal bowl.  He now thinks he can feed himself and often holds his own bottle and grabs the spoon to try to feed himself cereal in the morning.

01/06/2008

Kaleb had his 4 month check up and is doing great.  He now weighs 16 pounds and is 24.5 inches long.  He's getting really big and very heavy.  He can now sit with limited support and loves to chew on everything.  On the December 26th Kaleb had his first taste of rice cereal and it seemed to go well.  A few nights latter we tried green beans which didn't go as well.  On Christmas Kaleb even opened some of his gifts.  He was able to grab and pull some of the paper off, however I don't think he realized what he was doing.  Next year should be a blast.  He still hasn't rolled over yet but now he gets on his side and just can't get rest of his body over.

12/17/2007

Kaleb is almost 4 months old.  He's growing like you wouldn't believe and has changed so much since he was born.  Kaleb now has chubby cheeks and rolls on his legs.  He lost all of his hair and now has very light blonde almost white hair.  His favorite things to do are talking and smiling.  Kaleb makes all kinds of noises and even laughs a little.  Kaleb enjoys smiling especially at Matt.  All Matt has to do is look at him and he starts to smile.  Kaleb also has an interest in the TV.  If we're watching TV, Kaleb will turn his head so he can watch it.  He's still trying to roll over and hasn't made too much progress on that.  However, he is getting really good at grabbing and pulling objects.  Last week Kaleb began to sleep through the night but so far this week we haven't been as lucky.  The more we stay on a routine the better he is.  It will be interesting at Christmas to see how well he behaves.

11/29/2007

Kaleb and I are surviving being at work and daycare.  Kaleb is doing really good at daycare and sleeps most of the day.  Kaleb has now lost all his hair except for a little on the top. There's just enough there for a mohawk.

11/18/2007

Kaleb is now 12 weeks old.  Tomorrow I go back to work and Kaleb will start daycare.  It will be an interesting transition for the both of us.  Last week we worked really hard at getting naps in and got a pretty good routine down.  Kaleb usually takes two naps in the morning for about an hour each and then about a two hour nap in the afternoon.  Kaleb is holding his head up and is starting to sit up in the corner of the couch or chair.  He's even started to do little sit ups when on his back.  We recently bought him a bouncy seat and when he hits the toys hanging from it it lights up and plays music.  He loves it and will usually sit in it long enough for me to get ready in the morning.  Kaleb is also losing his hair.  We find it all over on everything from his clothes to his nuk.  It's weird to see him with such little hair since he's gone so long with so much.

11/05/2007

Today Kaleb had his 2 month appointment.  He weighs 11 pounds 13 ounces and was 23.5 inches long.  On Saturday Kaleb rolled over for the first time-I think by accident.  Matt and I were on the floor playing with him on his stomach and he got really mad and all of a sudden rolled from his stomach to his back.

11/02/2007

Kaleb is 2 1/2 months old.  On Wednesday he dressed up as a pirate for Halloween and Matt took him to the neighbor's house.  This week Kaleb didn't get up in the middle of the night to eat.  Instead he now gets up several times throughout the night for his pacifier.  Once he has that he's fine until it comes out and he wakes up again.  He's also starting to nap in the mornings usually taking two naps.  However we still struggle with an afternoon nap.  This week Kaleb starting to really explore his sense of touch.  He often grabs his ears, hair, or nose and has even poked himself in the eye a few times with his fingers.  He often moves his fingers and grabs different things around him even mom's hair.  He still hasn't figured our how to suck on a finger or thumb and when we show him he starts to cry.  However when his fist finds his mouth he'll suck on that.

10/25/2007

Kaleb is now 2 months old and his favorite thing to do is smile for Matt.  When Matt comes home at night Kaleb always smiles for him and only smiles occasionally for anyone else.  He also started to roll onto his left side from his back and is moving around more while on the floor and in his crib.

10/16/2007

It's unbelievable how much Kaleb is changing.  Kaleb is now awake more during the day and is starting to coo.  On Sunday Kaleb smiled for the first time at Matt.  Kaleb also started to roll from his back to his right side and can turn himself 90 degrees in his crib.  While awake he enjoys playing on his new play gym and hitting the toys that hang from it.  Kaleb also likes to look outside and at lights.  Kaleb is starting to take longer naps during the day and he's sleeping better at night usually getting up once.  This week we're starting to work on our bedtime routine.  I hope to have him sleep through the night by the time I go back to work.

10/05/2007

Kaleb is now 6 weeks old and we're starting to learn more about him.  Kaleb does not like to take long naps during the day for me while at home resulting in a fussy little guy that wants to constantly be held.  I'm lucky if he sleeps for an hour in the morning and afternoon.  However, if we're away from home he'll usually take a nap and is well behaved.  The past couple nights he's only gotten up once to eat usually between 12 and 2 depending on when the last time he ate was.  During the day Kaleb loves to stretch out with his arms above his head and look at his surroundings.  Since Kaleb is awake most of the day it gives me plenty of time to stare at his big blue eyes and not much time to get anything else done.  We've also learn Kaleb is ticklish on the bottom of his feet.  It's unbelievable how much he's changing and how fast.

09/20/2007

Kaleb is almost a month old.  His cheeks are getting chubby and his hands and fingers are starting to fill out.  He's almost grown out of his newborn clothes.  Kaleb loves to have his arms stretched above his head and enjoys sleeping on people's chest.  When on his stomach he gets close to rolling over and at times looks like he could crawl away.  He found his fist to suck on and just last night had his thumb in his mouth a couple times.  Last night he also slept for 6 1/2 hours.  I'm sure that won't happen every night but it was nice.

08/31/2007

As many of you have heard Matt and I welcomed a little boy into the world on Friday, August 24, 2007.  It all started on Thursday the 23rd at about at night when my water broke at home.  I called the hospital and was told to come in.  We both thought we would be there for a few hours and be sent home but to our surprise we were told we would be having a baby.  And what a surprise it was hearing that after being told at my doctor appointment on Monday I would more than likely go over my due date.  I labored until Friday evening and was then told they would have to do a c-section because the baby wasn't dropping.  At I gave birth to a baby boy weighing 7 pounds 8.3 ounces and 20 inches long.  We named him Kaleb Matthew and he has a full head of hair.

08/10/2007

We're slowly getting more done!  This week Matt put the stroller and car seat together.  We got a crib and changing table from one of Matt's co-workers.  I also bought a chair which Matt put together in the baby's room.   I had a doctor appointment today and was told the baby turned and is head down.  The heart rate was 148 beats per minute and everything is looking good.

08/04/2007

I had my last two week appointment on Monday and will now be seen weekly until the baby is born.  The baby's heart rate was a 130 beats per minute which usually means it's a boy.  The baby is still head up and hopefully will turn within the next two weeks.  Tuesday we finished our birthing classes.  These classes were great and very educational however it will be nice to have our Tuesday nights back again.  We started to get things ready in the baby's room.  We got the bassinet and swing all put together and ready to go.  I also opened all the baby clothes, towels, bibs and blankets to wash.    The major things to get done before the baby arrives are get a rocking chair and possibly a changing table and crib.  We were going to get a crib and changing table from one of Matt's co-workers.  However, after looking at some of the furniture at Babies "R" Us I'm now thinking we should buy new.  Even though we're slowly getting things done we have a ton of things left to do.

07/18/2007

What a busy month this has been so far.  We started our birthing class which is a four week series on Tuesday nights from .  It ends up being a really long day but the classes are well worth it.  We've already learned so much.  On the 13th I had my last monthly appointment and will begin to be seen every two weeks.  The 14th I had my first baby shower which my aunts from the Kanz side hosted.  They did a great job and I think everyone had a good time.  My favorite part was the game where everyone had to guess the baby's birth date, sex, weight, and length.  Everyone also included a name suggestion which we'll keep in mind when choosing a name.  It was interesting to see that 16 out of the 18 people at the shower think the baby is going to be a boy.  I can't wait to see what it is and see who wins the game.   The next several weeks are going to be just as busy as the first.   We have to start getting things ready for the baby as we haven't done anything yet.

06/03/2007

Everything is going well and I'm feeling great except for the occasional low back pain.  The baby continues to get bigger and moves around a lot.  At times I think it's kicking me with all it has.  Today Matt was able to feel the baby move for the first time.  A couple hours after he was able to feel the baby move you could see my stomach moving when the baby moved.  It's a neat feeling and it's great that Matt can also feel it now.
