Hello and welcome!
This page belongs to Holland Magnolia, our beautiful little girl who joined us on Sunday, January 13 at 7:29 in the morning! She weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces and was 20 inches long.
In case you're still wondering, Holland's name means a lot to us and we hope everyone finds it as special... Her name is Holland because Mom's family is Dutch and we wanted to honor her heritage. We wanted to make sure she has a special name that is significant, not just picked from a baby book. We actually knew we loved the name Holland since before we were even married, but we just couldn't figure out a middle name. Then one night, we were walking around town after getting milkshakes and passed by a magnolia tree. Mom thought that it would be the perfect middle name but didn't say anything because she thought Dad might find it a little odd, and then Dad turned and said "How about Magnolia for a middle name?" And that was that! The magnolia is the Louisiana state flower, and Mom's Oma always called her grandchildren her "little magnolias." It was also her uncle Nico's favorite flower, and we wanted to honor his memory as well. So, that's the story behind a beautiful name for a beautiful girl!
STORIES
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes...I've been a total slacker on this page...I just realized I haven't posted anything for a ridiculously long time, but I've been so busy falling in love with this little lady I don't want to turn my head that long!Holland is two months and three weeks old now, and she's turning into such a great little person. She's definitely ...continue story
Vomit and vulgarity
I'm coming to realize that not all mommyhood battles are meant to be won! I am learning things!
First, I've learned that an uncooperative breast pump is all the inspiration a normally sane, calm woman needs to suddenly spew vulgarities she didn't even know existed and would normally be horrified to hear. Not only does ...continue story
Just one look...
Today little Miss Holland isn't feeling so well. She has a teeny bit of a high temperature and it's absolutely freezing in the house, so she's bundled up like a mummy. That can't exactly be fun! This morning we woke up and went to the frosty kitchen nice and early to put away some dishes. I set her in her papasa ...continue story
An Old Soul...In the four weeks that Holland's been home, it's been so fascinating getting to know her. Some of her habits and quirks are really starting to become regular and it makes me wonder how much of it is "every baby" and how much is pure Holland. The way she crosses her arms when she rests her head on our shoulders and the wa ...continue story
The first week...Today makes one week since Holland joined the family. It's been such a hectic one! We came home on Monday afternoon after being cleared by our doctors. Oma was here waiting for us and she had cleaned up around the house, which is what we were attempting when the contractions got bad and we had to run - what a huge relief!! ...continue story
The Big Day!Friday the 11th was a normal day. Typical school things...getting teased by my coworkers and students with the now usual "You're still here?" or "She's just going to stay there until Easter!" jokes. No big deal! I did notice a few little twinges that were stronger than usual, but nothing that made me worry too ...continue story
