Jasmin eating strawberries. She loves to hold them and bite, especially the big juicy ones like the one shown here - American strawberries with the stem/stalk still attached. One box of 12 big strawberries with long stem costs about $18-$25sgd, depending on where you buy it from and how big the strawberries are.

Jasmin loves to eat noodles, the stringy kind. She likes to pick them up with her fingers and eat them strand by strand. Think its fun for her, cause she likes to eat it even without any sauce on it.

We decided to bring Jasmin to Sentosa today. The main objective was to visit the Underwater World and Dolphin Lagoon. We had been thinking about bringing Jasmin to the Underwater World for sometime now, since she turned 1, but we kept procrastinating because of the weather, and also because we were not sure if she would know how to 'appreciate' the attraction yet. However, since she was already familiar with the words Shark, fish, turtle, octopus, crab etc, we decided maybe it would be a good time to let her get acquainted with some aquatic animals.

So off to Sentosa we went, early in the morning. The plan was to reach Sentosa by 10am and visit the Underwater world and Dolphin Lagoon, have lunch and leave Sentosa by 12pm, when it gets too hot.

It was quite a fruitful outing. Not only did we visit Underwater World and Dolphin lagoon, we managed to go on the Carlsberg Sky Tower too, and have lunch, all by 12pm. However, the Dolphin Lagoon was kinda disappointing. All of us spectators crowding around a thin strip of sandy beach, no proper seating, just to see two pale pink dolphins swimming around. Half the time, Jasmin couldn't see the dolphins and was wondering what was going on.

Here are some pictures of our day at Sentosa

Time really flies, my bao bei is 21 months already! Since my last post at 18months, from then till now, Jasmin has learnt/achieved/is able to:-

1) Run and jump/hop, march with both feet, she will also nod her head and 'snap' her fingers to music she hears on the car radio sometimes
2) Identify more complex body parts like eyebrow, armpit, ankle etc
3) Say or express words like scared, sleep, eat, drink, play, pain  and can answer our questions like.. Do you want to do this, she will say yes or no, or Ok or not?
4) Identify and name/recite numbers 1 to 10 although her pronounciation is not that accurate. it sounds something like " wan too tee pour pie six fefer eight nine ten"
5) Identify and name/recite letters A to Z, but in capital only. Sometimes, she will rattle off the alphabet by herself in groups.. i heard her twice mumbling to herself, once in the car seat, another time when playing with her toys. she was saying .. "a,b,c, d, e, f,g, h, i ,j ,k ,l . m ,n..." and another time she was saying q, r, s t u v, w, x y z
6) Can identify and name some of the more common shapes - square, circle, triangle, oval
7) Her vocabulary (at identifying objects through sight and pictures) has increased a lot, so much so that i've lost count or rather stopped counting. Some of the objects/actions she can identify and words she can say include hello, hi, duck, hippo, kite, clown, juice, airplane, truck, car, bike, tv, magnet, fan, light, phone, bag, shoe, brush, comb, broom, sweep, onion, mirror, hug, kiss, straw, milk, look up, look down, hot, cold, bathe, teeth, tongue, hanky, pacifier, drive, type, hit, beat, lie down, knock, draw. crayon, read, butterfly and animals like dog, cat, horse, cow, pig, owl, turtle, fish bee among many others. Although some words, her pronounciation is far from accurate. eg. horse she pronounces as house, clown she pronounces as cown, mirror she pronounces as miwa and butterfly is Bar Fy. But some words, her pronounciation is spot on.
8) Able to feed herself with normal spoon. depending on what she is eating, sometimes its generally quite clean without fuss, sometimes she creates a mess,
9) Can complete song sentences. ie. we sing part of the sentence of one of her favourite songs, and she will say out of ending few words. Eg. For the song We're on the to Grandpa's farm, it goes something like this:-

M : We're on the way, we're on the way, on the way to grandpa's ...

J  : farm...
M : We're on the way, we're on the way, on the way to grandpa's ...
J   : farm
M  : down on grandpa's farm there is a black and white ..
J   : cow
M  : down on grandpa's farm there is a black and white ..
J   : cow
M  : the cow, it makes a sound like this..
J   : moo moo!
M: the cow, it makes a sound like this..
J   : moo moo!
M = mummy, J = Jasmin

Something hilarious to share.. hubby's brother and family were over for dinner one sunday, when jasmin suddenly farted during dinner. I asked her, Jasmin you poot poot ah? She look at me, smiled cheekily, the pointed to her cousin leanne (same age) who was sitting next to her and went "YOUUUUUUU,,,,,,,,," hahaha then another time, during dinner, jasmin burped. She went ohhhhh...then pointed to Ah Gong hiak hiak

Baby Sophie's full month cake was actually 4 mini cupcakes from Cupcake Momma. They were so cute that we ate them before we remembered to take any photos hee hee We let jasmin have a cupcake all to herself. The cupcake she ate had a piggy face on it. For the next few days after she had the cupcake, she was asking for it during breakfast and tea time. She would go " eat eat..pig pig.." haha

Here's Jasmin eating her yummy cupcake!

April 22nd, 2007

Jasmin turned 20months few days ago and it is very obvious she has become more vocal and assertive on what she wants, likes, dislikes or doesn't want. She will say Noooooooo and even Bu2 Yao4, shaking her hands and head. She also has developed quite a quick temper, and will sometimes shout or scream to voice her displeasure. She also tends to raise her hand halfway to smack something that she doesn't want or like to be put in front of her, and she will say 'beat'. She tries to kick things and even throw things around. Sometimes when she is angry with her daddy ( who always likes to tease her) she tries to smack him.

As she is becoming naughtier and reaching the Terrible Twos (i know, i know, the phrase is so cliche), i have been scolding and punishing her more often. And each time i smack her hand,  scold her, smack her buttock/thigh or make her stand in the corner, i feel so guilty when she cries. When she wails until her face is red and her tears keep running, aiyo, my heart just about shatters into a million pieces. But to discipline her, i cannot give in to her so easily, and give in to temptation to sayang her immediately. So normally, i wait for a while (about 1 or 2 mins, is the longest i can tahan) before i sayang her. Of course, i will try to explain to her why i scolded/punished her in the first place. But whether or not she understands, that i don't know lah... then sometimes after, i will check her legs to see if there are any smack marks or i will hug and kiss her more cause i feel so bad for scolding her.

The most pitiful crying she has done so far, is when i 'forced' her to take a nap one afternoon. She only slept about 45mins in the morning, woke up at 11am plus...then at 445pm, she still didn't want to take her afternoon nap.  After rocking her for 20mins in the sarong, she still didn't want to sleep. She was playing about in the sarong, twisting and turning and clapping her hands. But she was sleepy, cause she kept rubbing her eyes. Just that she didn't want to sleep ( i asked her to sleep, she kept saying no..) So i got fed up, put her on the bed beside me and told her in a very stern, unyielding voice to lie down, close her eyes and sleep. Knowing that mummy was pissed off, her lips started quivering (pacifier was in her mouth) and she lay down on the bed on her side, tears started flowing, shoulders started quaking, crying without making much noise except whimper. Wah lau, like i illtreated her like that. Normally she would cry or wail on top of her voice. But that day, she was crying silently, machiam i ill-treating her like that..i was torn between shaking my head in exasperation, laughing at the irony of it, and feeling guilty.

Aiyo..i can't imagine when she turns 24months, that's when they all say the Terrible Two's start... eeeks!

Mummy fell in love with a cute, tiny swimsuit (and expensive!) at Gap a few months ago, and bought it for Jasmin on a whim. As it was too big, mummy didn't let Jasmin wear it yet. After waiting for a loong loong time, mummy decided to let Jasmin try out the swimsuit to see if it fits...and it did!
